Lando Norris narrowly beat team-mate and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Norris, who seized the title advantage from Piastri by one point after his victory in Mexico City two weeks ago, outpaced the Australian by a mere 0.023s. Until that point, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT. Max Verstappen, the only other driver in the points battle, sitting 36 points Norris, was classified in P17 as his Red Bull team opted for a unique setup. Verstappen's team-mate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to crash, albeit lightly, when he spun at corner four during the early running. The Japanese spun out over the exit kerbs before rotating through the gravel trap, and was blessed to avoid just a slight brush of the barrier. The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the final moments of the session, spinning around through the fast downhill Mergulho turn approaching the last turn on to the pit straight. The veteran finished practice in 19th place, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc. The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the rest of the field, with the German's Sauber P3, over half a second off the Australian's time. Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
